Devin Kenny is a promiscuous creator who makes music, delivers lecture-performances, writes, shoots video works and photography, creates sculpture and designs clothing in order to address ideas on a range of topics from racial politics to online culture, from socially constructed identity to gentrification, from cryptocurrency to the prison-industrial complex.
The Chicago-born artist studied at New York’s Cooper Union, where he earned a BFA, and then racked up an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. Kenny further developed his practice through prestigious residencies at Maine’s Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Whitney Independent Study Program, in New York. He appeared in the “Made in L.A.” exhibition at UCLA’s Hammer Museum in 2014, as well as in group shows at New York’s Higher Pictures Gallery and the 92nd Street Y; MoMA PS1, also in Gotham, organized a solo exhibition in 2019. Kenny is also active as a curator, organizing shows at UCLA’s New Wight Gallery, and “Real Live Online,” a web-only exhibition co-presented by Rhizome and the New Museum, New York.
