About the artwork
I created this painting after coming back from some time I spent in Florence, Italy, last year and being around some beautiful sculptures. It’s based on a sculpture that’s on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York. I think of Greek and Roman art as human potential, and that’s a driving force. To create it, I very uncomfortably sat on my hardwood floor, and I finished it in three or four hours and shared it immediately. A friend pointed out that it was interesting to focus on a nose and a mouth when masks are the new norm, so these are parts of the face that we can’t see and share.
