About the artwork

I call this one Hermes, after the Greek god, because the shapes kind of looked like an H to me, and that’s what popped up in my mind somehow. Really, it all comes from the subconscious mind. I never set out with an intention. Abstraction is an opportunity to play with negative and positive space, and with color and tone. With each drawing, I work from a visual language that is ever evolving. It’s all about that moment where I try and feel my way through the drawing. When I’m working with a pencil in my sketchbook, you can play with thinking, but not thinking.
