About Mark Soo
Mark creates multimedia spectacles
“I’ve always liked putting things together. Being an artist allows you to construct many different kinds of things and pull them together.”
Born in Singapore before moving to Vancouver and now in Berlin, Mark Soo is fascinated by the effect that culture and technology have on photography. He has worked with film, installation, video and photography, and is unafraid of using dated technology. One example is his use of photograms, a photography technique that doesn’t require a camera. For Absolut Art, Soo’s approach remains the same with the same fondness of old technology. Using a low-resolution cell phone, he captured images related to 18th century France. The end result is three pieces entitled “Madame Guillotine” that require the viewer to observe the work from far away.
