Good Morning, Midnight
About the artwork
I have made a series of drawings based on flower and nature photography. Using source material mostly found in old books and gardening catalogs, I alter the images in Photoshop and then redraw them over different colored acrylic washes on paper. This series was originally inspired by Warhol’s flower paintings but has developed into my own commentary on human beings’ relationship to the natural world and the boundless beauty we seem intent on destroying. Hand-drawn to replicate the look of a coarse, mechanically printed image like a Xeroxed punk flyer, these drawings embody the tension between the natural and mechanical worlds. This print takes its title from an Emily Dickinson poem (a line I first heard in the song “Oblivion” by the Mekons).
In honor of this collaboration, Absolut Art donated $500 to Extinction Rebellion, an organization fighting climate change.
