Whitney walks on a fine line between gesture, performance and dance
“My work is full of unlikely visual rhythms. It creates and provokes with aesthetic force.”
Whitney Hubbs spent her formative years growing up in what she describes as “punk rock feminist do-it-yourself neighbourhoods”. As an artist, she is inspired by a wide range of sources such as books, films and art. This explains why her work is full of contradictions– it is blunt and lyrical, formal and improvised, recognisable and totally foreign. Hubbs has exhibited in a variety of institutions, including the California Museum of Photography, M+B Gallery, Arturo Bandini and Roberts & Tilton. The artist has also created two pictures for Absolut Art. The works are abstractions of an object, using line to create gesture, performance and dance.
