Filippa Barkman works with drawing and sculpture
“I like to balance the cute with the unnerving.”
Swedish artist Filippa Barkman started out on her journey into the abstract and expressionistic tradition as a two-year-old. Now that she's a grown-up, her work borrows more from the fluffy world of adolescent fairytales or floating in limbo in the borderland situated amid pain and pleasure. Who is the victim and who is the perpetrator? What just happened and what is about to? Filippa's works deal with questions of identity – the living being; where does one of these beings begin and the next embark. Their situation is that of dependence, for better or worse – forced to cooperate among other individuals or two different sides of you.
