Between the visible and the invisible, between sound and silence

“Like magic, art is an act of transformation, which can be as simple as making a coincidence happen.”

Somewhere within our human desire to belong is a simultaneous longing for freedom. Glenda Leon spends her days exploring this space in between, by way of surrealism. The internationally renowned Havana-born visual artist is excited by the harmonious coexistence of contradictions. She is driven to create works that stun us into seeing the world from a different angle. Her mission? To “make noticeable the imperceptible”. It makes sense, then, that Glenda left behind a life in Europe to return to her beautiful colonial home in Cuba. Havana’s inherent spontaneity and unpredictability spurs her to search for magic.

Glenda is roused literature, music, cinema. To that end, her work is boundless, encompassing drawing, video art, objects and photography. And her accolades span the global art world. Glenda is the recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, and her works belong to the permanent collections of Georges Pompidou Centre, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Fine Arts of Houston and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
