To a world free of plans
“I’m talking to the part of myself that I’m not as familiar with"
A painter hailing from Queens and working now out of Brooklyn, Andrew Kuo uses art and color to investigate the existing systems our world works with day to day. Lending form his personal history and identity, his boldly interpretative, color-coded work loudly subverts and reinterprets what we know about data. As he paints, he presents his infatuation with numbers, statistics and charts. And then sometimes, as he’s done for Absolut Art, he veers away from his own rules.
One of the two artists selected as part of the TimesTalks & AbsolutArt.com 20th Anniversary Festival Collection, Andrew has embraced a rule-free zone in his new work, devoid of borders and delightfully “free of plans”. His series of acrylic paintings on linen feature loud splashes of color in a distinct step away from his usual fascination with definitive lines and examination of rules.
