Josh Mannis

Josh creates an allegory with no moral lesson

“For all the nice weather and outdoorsiness, Los Angeles is actually a place where one can also be extremely private and reclusive.”

Working in a range of media such as drawing, sculpture, clothes and video, Josh Mannis is an artist preoccupied with figuration, sociality, work, and the ethics of presentation. He was born in Boston in 1976, and received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Most recently, Mannis is fascinated by expressionist printmaking, optical art and fetish comics. Mannis’s recent exhibitions were hosted in places like Thomas Solomon Gallery, Know More Games, Retrospective and Team Gallery. For his submission to Absolut Art, Mannis has created “Life Code”, an allegory of education and art history.
