Purple Heart Pray Rug
About the artwork
The Purple Heart print is part of an ongoing series called Psychedelic Prayer Rugs. The graphics are drawn up and sent to Kashmir, India, where fabricators hand-stitch wool rugs from the designs. Before the fabricators start to produce the works, a screen print is affixed to a cotton canvas that the rugs are then embroidered onto. This process enables the fabricators to create a perfect replication of my design graphics. The meditation on my own personalized designs for prayer rugs comes from a need to see spirituality on my own terms.
