About the artwork
I’ve been doing quite a few paintings that are a modern take on the classic still life, with lots of plants. Here you see quite a few patterns, which are a big theme in my work—the leaf patterns, the terrazzo motif, the checkerboard on the table, and then the wood pattern. I was trying to make shapes work together. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Quite a few drawings went in the trash before I found this one, which I think is quite balanced.
When I was painting it, the sun was literally in my face. Plus, I always listen to music while I’m working, and the song “Mr. Sun (miss da sun)” by Greentea Peng came on. It’s a great one.You should check it out.
