Silent Spikes (Virgo)
About the artwork
This is a still image from a two-channel video ‘Silent Spikes’, and it shows a man wearing cowboy outfits while performing movements derived from bull-riding. The blue and pink background combined with a hazy atmosphere create a dream-like space that reflects on who gets to play this character, and in what way.
‘Silent Spikes’ is presented as Times Square’s Midnight Moment in June 2021 by Times Square Arts, The Queens Museum, and Absolut Art. It was commissioned by The Queens Museum with support from the Guggenheim Museum’s Asian Art Circle.
In honor of this collaboration, Absolut Art donated $2,500 to Heart of Dinner, a nonprofit collective selected by Tam, which works to fight food insecurity and isolation experienced by Asian American seniors throughout New York City.
