Music and art, suddenly powered with urgency
“Capturing mood, essence, and attitude”
Seattle-born photographer Pieter Van Hattem spent his time in the aughts shooting portraits of rock bands like the White Stripes, Interpol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Strokes, after getting his start documenting the hip-hop scene for the magazine The Source. You may also have seen his work in glossies like Spin and Rolling Stone. He has shot titans like Neil Young, Questlove, M.I.A., and the Rolling Stones. Not only that, Van Hattem has also shown his work in the hallowed halls of institutions like London’s Tate Modern and the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
